Improving Buy-In to IM Policies - June 17th - Free meeting via zoom
Improving Buy-In to IM Policies
Join us for a FREE meeting via Zoom on June 17, 2021 at Noon. Meeting is pre-approved for 1 CEU for both the IGP and AIIM's CIP certications.
Most people associate IM policies with notions like requirements and restrictions. Those connotations are unfortunate because that’s not what writing rules is about. Written properly, rules are primarily about getting clarity and about target setting. No matter what the field — IM, IT, Security — rules are about helping people do the right thing.
In many offices, Information Management (IM) policies are long and confusing, and no one reads them. Worse, they often sound like angry parents scolding naughty children. Adults bristle at disrespectfully worded statements, making compliance a battle. The reality is that the policy writers wanted to sound strict rather than disrespectful, but they paid more attention to the content than to the tone of voice. Ultimately, the tension created by poorly written policies has a palpable impact on employee morale. In this session, you will learn how you might improve the conversation dynamic.
- Policies and compliance done right are a collaborative effort, not a power struggle.
- The wording of an organization's policies can unintentionally reveal its internal problems.
We need to change the rule-making dynamic from Parent–Child to Adult–Adult, so that IM Specialists are seen as experts rather than enforcers.
The session is fully interactive, and uses the full chat feature/participant feature.
